The Golden Mask in Latvia 2019 festival will be held with the support of Severstal

The events of the 14th theatre festival Golden Mask in Latvia will take place from the 19th to the 28th October in Riga, Ventspils, Liepāja and – for the first time – in  Rēzekne. The festival programme includes five productions highly praised by the jury of the Golden Mask National Theatre Award and by the members of the judging panel of the Golden Mask in Latvia.

The most awaited have become two plays of the 2018/2019 season: “SEREZHA” (based on the novel “Anna Karenina” by Lev Tolstoy), debut of the renowned director Dmitry Krymov in the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater (MKhT), and “GLORY” – first poduction by Konstantin Bogomolov, one of the main newsmakers of the Russian stage, in the Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theater (BDT), “a play about good people”, the genre as defined by the director himself.

The audience is sure to enjoy the other three plays just as much. The MKhT play directed by Konstantin Bogomolov “HUSBANDS AND WIVES” based on the works of Woody Allen – the theatrical version of the famous film in the genre of comedy-drama. The production by the Pushkin Moscow Drama Theater “S_UCHILISCHA” (untranslatable wordplay, can be literally translated as “From vocational school”) – a familiar, funny and scary story about a fatal role of a girl studying at a vocational school in the life of a philosophy teacher. “PROMISE AT DAWN” – one more play produced by the same theatre based on the iconic autobiographical novel by Romain Gary about a passionate, all-forgiving and, at times, devastating maternal love.

“This year the Golden Mask National Theatre Award is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Severstal has been collaborating with the Golden Mask for as long as 14 years, and it was the Golden Mask in Latvia festival with which this project started. At present, we have several areas of cooperation with the festival, including support of staging of the best plays of the year in Moscow and holding of the Award Ceremony, which is recognized as the Theatre Oscars in Russia, and last but not least, staging of the best plays in the regions of operation of Severstal – in several cities in Latvia and in the cities of Cherepovets, Petrozavodsk and Kostomuksha in Russia”, – said Natalia Poppel, the Head of the Corporate Social Responsibility and Brand Department of PAO Severstal.
